A Prophet’s Life is Not a Happy One
A song and puppet script for an Isaiah puppet and a leader (narrator). You need a puppet dressed as Isaiah from the Bible (this could be a simple cardboard cut out person stuck on a stick or a person dressed up as Isaiah with a beard...) Narr: We have a special visitor today who’s travelled on our time machine all the way from the 700 years before Jesus was born. Mr. Isaiah, please tell us a bit about yourself? Isaiah: Well, I’m a prophet. I speak what God tells me to say and lately I’ve been speaking to the people in Judea. They have turned away from God and their worship is a sham. They don’t look after the poor... and weak. . . They are proud. . . They worship money. Because God loves them he is warning them to change; if they don’t turn back to him they will be punished, taken away by conquerors. God has a plan to save them, if only they would listen. It makes me sad, how stubborn the people are, and of course they don’t want to listen. And that’s why I feel rather miserable at times. (SING SONG below to the tune 'A Policeman's Lot (is not a happy one)' from 'The Pirates of of Penzance' by Gilbert and Sullivan.) When a prophet has a message to deliver (to deliver) That the people that it’s for don’t want to hear (want to hear) It can make the prophet start to shake and shiver (shake and shiver) As he contemplates his audi-ence with fear (-ence with fear) For he’s not a very well-liked sort of fellow (sort of fellow) And former friends his ene-mies become (-mies become) Taking one consideration with another (with another) Well, a prophet’s life is not a happy one (happy one) If the people here would only stop and listen (stop and listen) For my words are given me from God above (God above) They would clearly hear the message of God’s judgement (of God’s judgement) But also of God’s mercy and His love(of His love) So I’m not a very well-liked sort of fellow (sort of fellow) And former friends my ene-mies become (-mies become) Taking one consideration with another (with another) Well, a prophet’s life is not a happy one (happy one). Narr: Yes, I understand it’s difficult for you Isaiah, but would it cheer you up to know that in hundreds of years’ time (and even a couple of thousands of years) people would be reading the words you’re writing now in your book? Not just reading them, but being changed by them and saved through them. When you speak God’s message, you can be sure God will change people. Isaiah: Well, yes, thank you for your encouragement. I can’t stop speaking God’s message, even though it makes my life hard. (c) Song Words and Script by Heather Bickerdike May 2020 Thank you Heather for your contribution to Eliab.com! |
