Knock Knock
Who’s there? Dexter Dexter who? Dexter the halls with boughs of holly… Six-year old Beth was asked what she was going to give her brother for Christmas. “I don’t know,” she answered. “What did you give him last year?” “Chicken pox.” George: My dad’s very rich, so I don’t know what to get him for Christmas. What do you give a man who has everything? Harry: A burglar alarm. A little boy and girl were singing their favourite Christmas carol, “Silent Night.” The boy concluded the rendition with the words, “Sleep in heavenly beans.” His sister quickly corrected him: “It’s not beans, it’s peas.” A Sunday school teacher asked her class, “What was Jesus’ mother’s name? One child answered, “Mary.” The teacher then asked, “Who knows what Jesus’ father name’s was? A little kid said,”Verge.” Confused, the teacher asked, “Where did you get that from?’ The kid said, “Well, you know how they are always talking about ‘Verge and Mary’.” Three young children were playing the parts of the wise men in a school play. At one point they came to Mary and Joseph at the manger and said the following: Magi 1: Here is the gold. Magi 2: This is myrrh. Magi 3: And Frank sent this. Good King Wenceslas rings up a local pizza restaurant to order a pizza. “Certainly your Majesty,” says the manager, “will it be your usual? Deep pan, crisp and even?” As a little girl climbed onto Santa’s lap, Santa asked the usual: “And what would you like for Christmas?” The child stared at him open-mouthed and horrified for a minute, then gasped: “Didn’t you get my email?” Dear Santa, There are three little boys who live at our house. There’s Jeffrey. He’s two. There’s David. He’s four. There’s Norman. He is seven. Jeffrey is good some of the time. David is good some of the time. Norman is good all of the time. I am Norman. “It’s Christmas every time you let God love others through you…every time you smile at your brother and offer him a hand.” Mother Teresa “Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head. The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay, The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.” A father was reading Bible stories to his young son. He read, "The man named Lot was warned to take his wife and flee out of the city, but his wife looked back and was turned to salt." His son asked, "What happened to the flea?"
First give each child a deflated balloon. Each time the leader pauses in the following prayer invite the children to blow gently into their balloons. Get them to hold them carefully but not tie them.
Now say this prayer ( or use your own), pausing at the end of each line. " Thank you, God, that you are with us always. Thank you for the Holy Spirit, who gives us power to live our lives for you. Help us to follow you this week and to do the things you want us to do at home, at school, and with our friends." Finally invite the children to call out "Thank you God!" and let their balloons go. You may like to give them another balloon to blow up and take home. Write on it in 'texta' pen, 'God is with me."( As a reminder of God's presence and power for them this week). A Sunday school teacher asked her class why Joseph and Mary took Jesus with them to Jerusalem. A young girl answered, "because they couldn't find a babysitter?"
In today’s world we seem to be running faster than ever, trying to do it all and have it all, or at least avoiding being run down from behind. According to TIME magazine, we’re smack in the middle of a “time famine” and no one has any idea of when it will end. Who knows? Time may end first. Meanwhile, life seems set on “fast lane “and we don’t dare slow down.
We dash through life, and our daily routines seem to allow little or no time for God in our busy lives. I think actually that God is never left behind. In fact, He is far ahead of us. The only way we may ever catch up is to learn to slow down, live in the moment, and focus on the “one thing” that is truly necessary. That “one thing” is a quietness of our souls which Henri Nouwen calls “moving to the center, where all other things fall into place.” FEEDING 5000 (John chapter 6)
(Invite children to join in the counting parts of the rhyme) 1, 2 ... two small fish. (Not much of a dish) PLUS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... five loaves of bread. "That's all I have!" The small boy said. No shops to stop. No place to buy, Then Jesus prayed, please multiply Till every mouth had fish and bread. Amazed that all the crowd was fed. 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000... People, sat on a hill And saw Jesus add up a miracle. ©Don Stott Eliab.com Check ouit these excellent storytelling ideas from Tony Kummer
